This note grades Very Fine with a hole-out cancellation and tears on the cancellation.
This specific series was perhaps issued to satisfy the concerns of The Secret Service and federal authorities after they arrested the Governor of Mississippi in July, 1894 for counterfeiting.
The Mississippi state seal replaced the Governor's portrait and a new brown design was used for the reverse. These changes may have placated those who were concerned about green backs and notes with portraits on them similar to National Bank Notes.
This warrant was receivable for all state dues without interest, but paid 3% interest if held to maturity on Jan. 1, 1896.
This is the only denomination known to have been authorized.
It measures ~ 8" x 3.25".
