After the American Civil War, many railroads and banks issued items such as "Fare Tickets" and "Certificates of Deposit" to skirt the Federal Laws prohibiting the issuance of private currency. After seeing the circulation some of these notes went through, they undoubtedly circulated as Currency.
This piece from the American Bank Note Company features a Vignette of a man tending to farm animals at the center. On the bottom left Hope searches the sea. "2" dies and "TWO" protectors are printed in green! The reverse also sports an intricate green design.
This note grades Very Good with some small pinholes.
