1862 25c Asa Holt Merchant Scrip from Mobile, Alabama.

Asa Holt was a liquor merchant and tavern owner. The scrip he issued, such as this one, were redeemable at his relative's (George W. Holt) coffee shop in New Orleans. George himself issued so many scrips that he was eventually in trouble with the authorities. 

The 1870 census shows both Holt's living together in Mobile; Asa still selling liquor and George selling fruit. 

This Civil War era note grades Fine with some pinholes, a small hole on the bottom right and light mounting spots on the back.

It measures ~ 5.25" x 2.5".
