$150.00

1862 $1 Campbell County note from Campbellton, Georgia.

Being bypassed by the Atlanta and West Point Railroad and receiving additional damage during the Atlanta campaign led to the post war decline of Campbellton. Today it is a ghost town. It was still the county seat of Campbell County in 1862 when these notes were issued for the benefit of the Soldiers' Relief Fund. The notes, which depict two cotton bales, were receivable for county dues and were also redeemable in unspecified "bankable currency."
