1861 $1 The Bank of Pittsylvania note from Chatham, Virginia. 

Once hostilities began, Southern banks such as this were cut off from their Northern suppliers and were forced to issue these lithographed Civil War Emergency Issued notes. 

On the left is a rendition of the Virginia State Seal with the motto "Sic Semper Tyrannis" which means "Thus Always to Tyrants". 

This note grades Fine with tiny edge nicks. 

It measures ~ 7.25" x 3.25".
