1850 $100 The Planters Bank of the State of Georgia note from Savannah, Georgia.

This bank operated from 1810 until it failed in the 1860's. 

This note features a large Vignette of an eagle perched at the center. On the left is a cameo head of Shakespeare.

This example is signed by Hugh W. Mercer as Cashier who became a colonel of the 1st Georgia Infantry. He was later promoted to brigadier general and served as commander of the District of Georgia. 

After falling Ill, he was sent back home to Savanah. Mercer commanded the 10th Battalion, Georgia Infantry, which was charged with the defense of the Savannah area.

This note grades Fine+ with many pinholes, ink burn, a tear on the top edge and a missing corner.

It measures ~ 7" x 3".
