1844 $100 The Illinois and Michigan Canal "Canal Indeptedness" Scrip from Lockport, Illinois.
This note was created out of necessity after the Illinois and Michigan Canal ran into quite the problem. Their notes had been payable at the State Bank of Illinois which failed in 1842. Apparently the company had many notes which were now useless as they printed new notes on the backs of the previous ones.
This note was issued specifically "For Work Done on Said Canal".
This item grades About Uncirculated with 2 hammer-cut cancellations and some small pinholes.
It measures ~ 6.25" x 3.5".
