1836 $1 The River Raisin & Lake Erie Rail Road Company note from Monroe, Michigan.

This Rail Road Company began operations in 1836. It was purchased by the State of Michigan in 1840 and continued issuing notes into the 1860's. This note was issued just before the company was purchased.

At the center is a Vignette of the steamboat Monroe at sea between large "ONE" counters. George Washington's portrait is on the far left and Athena stands on the far right.

This note grades Very Fine with a cross-cut cancellation, a pinhole, and a couple tiny holes on the right.
