1864 Cr.22a 25c The State of Louisiana note from Shreveport, LA.

Fractional paper currency like this note were printed out of necessity due to the coin shortage caused by the War. During the Civil War, coinage, especially silver and gold, became so valuable that most people started hoarding them. These stashes became so large that coins were almost completely wiped out. In order to continue every day business without metal coins, many merchants, private banks, and the Government issued fractional paper currency.

This note is a scarcer variety with a "ONE" protector on the reverse.

This note grades Very Fine with a pinhole on the top.

It measures ~ 4.25" x 1.8".
